Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹ûÏÖ³¡Ö±²¥ signed agreement with Saro Environmental Organization to revitalize indigenous water management system

Karez systems are ancient traditional practices of water tapping and channeling prevalent in rural areas. Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹ûÏÖ³¡Ö±²¥ with the support of local communities is working to rehabilitate karez to improve water supply and provide sustainable livelihoods. In this connection an agreement was signed in between Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹ûÏÖ³¡Ö±²¥ and Saro Environmental Organization working in Tangian Village of Ziarat District in Balochistan to revitalize the Saro Karez under the Balochistan Partnerships for Sustainable Development Programme and the Water and Nature Initiative.

The agreement signing ceremony was held on 13th July 2011 at Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹ûÏÖ³¡Ö±²¥â€™s Office, Quetta. Mr. Zabardast Khan Bangash Manager Balochistan Programme and Mr. Saleh Muhammad Sarangzai President Saro Environmental Organization, on behalf of Tangian community, signed the document. Seven community elders of Tangian village were also present on the occasion. Before signing, all the sections of MoU were discussed thoroughly in light of project components.

BPSD has also completed two similar projects of rehabilitating karezes in Qilla Iskan Khan in Pishin and Bagh Viala village in Qilla Saifullah. The agreement is another step taken by Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹ûÏÖ³¡Ö±²¥ to rehabilitate the centuries old irrigation system of karez which is expected to lead towards sustainability in the province.
