Forest landscape restoration needs women

Women play a key role in natural resource use and management, particularly in agriculture and forested landscape systems and along value chains. Women make up about 43% of the agricultural workforce in the developing world. It's estimated that听if women had the same access to productive resources as men, they could raise听total agricultural output in developing countries by 2.5% to 4%, in turn reducing the number of hungry people in the world by 12% to 17%. Moreover, women in forest communities may听generate more than half of their income from forests.听Women are deeply involved in land use across the world. They听shape landscapes at scale,听and听need to be at the forefront of planning and implementation of听forest landscape restoration.

Samantha Figueroa, Member of Congress of Guatemala.听Deputy for the Department of Chimaltenango听and an expert in using the political system and courts to advocate for justice for people and communities, she speaks听about how indigenous women have unique knowledge to contribute to restoration programmes.
