In this context, the ������ϲʿ�������ֳ�ֱ�� World Commission on Environmental Law, in close collaboration with its Climate Change Specialist Group (CCSG), organized the side-event entitled “Role and regulation of nature-based solutions, including the role of carbon markets” on 12 December (4-6pm) at the Carlos III University Madrid, during COP 25.

Professor Christina Voigt, who has been recently elected as a member of the Paris Agreement’s Committee to Facilitate Implementation and Promote Compliance (Compliance Committee), chaired the event. The panelists addressed cross-cutting legal themes and tools, calling attention to need for a paradigm shift in face of a climate emergency. COP 25 was held in Madrid, Spain, (from 02 to 15 December 2019), to discuss important measures to the implementation of the Paris Agreement, among other issues.��

The event emphasized that safe operating space for humanity is at cross-roads, while the interconnected climate and biodiversity crises escalate to an unprecedented level. The messages from civil society and the scientific community are clear: there is no time to wait and cross-scale transformative action is urgently needed.

Dr. juris Christina Voigt is professor at the Department of Public and International Law, University of Oslo, Norway. Professor Voigt is a member of the ������ϲʿ�������ֳ�ֱ�� World Commission on Environmental Law (WCEL), member of the ������ϲʿ�������ֳ�ֱ�� Task Force on Climate Change and the chair of the ������ϲʿ�������ֳ�ֱ�� WCEL´s Specialist Group on Climate Change. In 2009, she was awarded the first ������ϲʿ�������ֳ�ֱ�� Academy of Environmental Law Junior Scholarship Prize.
