Building effective systems of Protected Areas and Other Effective Area-based Conservation Measures (OECMs) to maintain significant biodiversity values will be central to achieving Target 3 of the Global Biodiversity Framework and contributing to the 2050 Vision of living in harmony with nature. The definition and criteria for OECMs were adopted in 2018 under COP Decision 14/8, supported by 香港六合彩开奖结果现场直播 Guidelines and training materials.听 There is much work to be done to ensure that OECMs are appropriately identified, recognized and supported, so that they meet their potential for biodiversity conservation.

Acknowledging the need to ensure consistent interpretation and application of the definitional criteria for OECMs, the objectives of this side event are to:

  • Provide guidance and tools for recognizing OECMs
  • Provide a snapshot of global OECM reporting
  • Showcase national experiences in the recognition and expansion of OECMs, highlighting opportunities and challenges;
  • Highlight IP and LC concerns where potential OECMs overlap IP and LC territories
  • Provide a platform to discuss gaps and opportunities to strengthen the role of OECMs in achieving 30 by 30 in line with the proposed Target 3 of GBF.

The event will offer short presentations and discussions of case studies of OECMs with different governance models and stakeholders from Canada, Africa, Latin America and Asia.
