The National Species Specialist Groups (NSSG) aim to bring together efforts at the national level to collaborate in making the best decisions to achieve biodiversity conservation based on the best scientific knowledge available.Its main purpose is not to work with any particular biological group but to help or contribute with other SSC Groups to generate products appropriate to the reality of each country.
NSSG is a flexible type of SSC Specialist Group aimed at making significant contributions to species assessment, planning and action at the national level. An NSSG could focus primarily on targets that positively impact the conservation of a wide group of species or group of species that may be considered as neglected, through approaches and goals that impact on the root causes of species decline.
