Gender-based violence is present in all sectors around the globe. The International Union for Conservation of Nature’s (Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹ûÏÖ³¡Ö±²¥) landmark publication, found that 59% of over 300 environmental practitioners had observed or been informed of gender-based violence during the implementation of environmental projects. Since that time, the demand for financing and tailored technical support to environmental programs has soared. Since 2020, Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹ûÏÖ³¡Ö±²¥ has received over 650 requests for information, collaboration, and support. Another 2,359 requests for funding and tailored support have also been submitted under the – the globe’s only dedicated mechanism to supporting environmental organizations to develop and integrate capacities to identify and address gender-based violence and environment linkages.
To mark the close to this year’s 16 Days of Activism, we invite you to join us in exploring how gender-responsive finance and programmatic action can address women’s safety from gender-based violence in environmental contexts – every day.Â
The event will feature government speakers honing focus on gender-based violence and environmental linkages. We will also showcase learning from project sites under the RISE grants challenge. Hear from conservation, climate and land defenders advocates on adapting GBV referral pathways, adapting social norms guidance to prevent GBV and safeguarding, and turning gender analysis findings into improved safety and security planning.
