������ϲʿ�������ֳ�ֱ��

This is the first time the government has taken the lead with development partners to organize an all-of-government conference to review the challenges and opportunities in sustainably develop the Mekong Delta in the context of climate change. This demonstrates the strong determination of the Government to mobilize the support from the different ministries, agencies, and international organizations to identify strategic transformational solutions in the Mekong Delta with a vision to 2100.

������ϲʿ�������ֳ�ֱ�� through it’s Integrated Planning (IP) project funded by Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) along with development partners worked with MONRE to technically and financially support the Conference.

Dr. Andrew Wyatt – ������ϲʿ�������ֳ�ֱ�� Mekong Delta Program Manager- presented a Development Partner speech on behalf of ������ϲʿ�������ֳ�ֱ�� advocating 3 points:

1. the adoption of the PoR and LXQ visions, strategic directions and proposed investments into a new Integrated Mekong Delta Investment Master Plan that is presently being developed, and that we stand ready to assist the government with a medium sized GCF proposal;

2. development of long-term strategies and plans to begin the process of moving the coastal dyke inland to avoid the coastal squeeze, and restoring mangroves through investments in integrated mangrove aquaculture systems in 4 provinces where there is only a thin veneer of mangroves left;

3. and GoV should influence the investment decisions of Vietnamese companies who are lining up to build hydropower dams on the Se Kong River which will cut off a further 25% of the remaining sediment that is flowing into the Mekong Delta.   

Dr. Wyatt also emphasized the important role of the government to ensure the coherence between the different sub-regional visions and directions, and intervening role of the Government if there are conflict between the visions and directions in different sub-regions.

Through its work, ������ϲʿ�������ֳ�ֱ�� Viet Nam has been advocating for the application of Ecosystem-based Adaptation (EbA) measures to adapt to climate change in the Mekong Delta through two projects in the Mekong Delta: Integrated Planning (IP) and the Mangroves and Markets (MAM) project with SNV.
