TheÌýForest Strategy, aÌýcrucial component of the EU Green Deal,Ìýrecognises the central role of forests, foresters and the entire forest-based value chain for achieving by 2050 a sustainable and climate-neutral economy and for ensuring that all of ecosystems are restored, resilient, and adequately protected.Ìý

WithÌýregard toÌýprotection and restoration,Ìýthe EU Forest Strategy isÌýcoherent with the EU Biodiversity Strategy to 2030ÌýandÌýreinforces the need toÌýstrictlyÌýprotect all remaining old-growthÌýand primaryÌýforest in Europe.ÌýÏã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹ûÏÖ³¡Ö±²¥Ìýfully supports this targetÌýand urgesÌýstakeholdersÌýto use ourÌýProtected Areas ManagementÌý³¦²¹³Ù±ð²µ´Ç°ù¾±±ð²õÌýasÌýaÌýhelpful tool toÌýsupportÌýdesignationÌýand monitoring.ÌýFurthermore,Ìýboth the Commission and Member StatesÌýshouldÌýensureÌýfullÌýownershipÌýof the StrategyÌýby allÌýstakeholders,ÌýincorporatingÌýthem in the implementationÌýprocessÌýfrom the start.Ìý

‘Striking theÌýrightÌýbalance between protectingÌýand restoring forestsÌýwhileÌýsupporting the bioeconomy throughÌýaÌýsustainable useÌýof managed forestsÌýwill be key toÌýachieving the goalsÌýofÌýthe ForestsÌýStrategy.ÌýÏã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹ûÏÖ³¡Ö±²¥ stands ready to facilitate open dialoguesÌýbetween the differentÌýstakeholdersÌýwhichÌýwill beÌýneeded toÌýcontribute to the overall success of the strategy,’ said Alberto Arroyo Schnell,ÌýHead ofÌýPolicyÌýand ProgrammeÌýat Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹ûÏÖ³¡Ö±²¥ Europe.Ìý

The Strategy also references the importance of restoring degraded forest ecosystems andÌýlinks to theÌýupcoming legally binding restoration targets will play a key role in enhancing forest ecosystems protection in the EU.Ìý

OverÌýthe coming months, EU ministers willÌýhaveÌýtheir say on the Strategy.ÌýWe hope that theyÌýfullyÌýsupportÌýthe targetsÌýand commit toÌýswiftÌýimplementationÌýfor the benefit of people and planet.Ìý
