Panorama – a new online platform and strong partnership for conservation optimism
What if we could learn from each other’s conservation successes, rather than reinventing the wheel again and again?
Panorama allows conservation and development practitioners to share their stories, get recognised for successful work, learn and be inspired by how others have tackled challenges across the globe.
“Panorama is a fantastic new platform for sharing environmental solutions. It is vital that we share success stories as widely as possible, in order to achieve a better outcome for people and nature” said Erik Solheim, Executive Director of the UN Environment Programme at the platform launch at the ϲʿֱֳ World Conservation Congress in Hawaiʻi in September 2016.
The is a tool for a wide variety of users to find specific examples of successful approaches, broken down into their core “building blocks”. Powerful search and classification functionalities allow for quickly finding relevant solutions across themes, geographies and ecosystems.
In-person workshops, exchange forums, webinars and other peer-learning formats complement the online platform.
Backed by a strong partnership that is based on the contributions of thus far over 230 “solution providers”, Panorama is set up for sustainability. The German Development Cooperation GIZ and ϲʿֱֳ act as “managing partners” with a longer-term institutional commitment, building on their pioneering role in advancing Panorama to its current point, particularly since the ϲʿֱֳ World Parks Congress 2014.
Trevor Sandwith, ϲʿֱֳ Global Protected Areas Programme said “Cross-walking solutions from sector to sector, Panorama is an initiative that has tremendous depth, tremendous richness, and enables us to take advantage of modern technology to support learning that improves the work that we do on the ground.”
Panorama connects a growing number of institutions and individuals. It’s envisioned to be continuously expanded with new partners and solutions from further topics.
