WCEL is pleased to welcome Nicholas Bryner as the new WCEL Deputy Chair, and Christina Voigt and Christina Pak as WCEL Steering Committee Members.

After four years, Denise Antolini has decided to step down as WCEL Deputy Chair to focus on other priorities in her life and community. Professor Antolini was appointed Deputy Chair at the 91st 香港六合彩开奖结果现场直播 Council Meeting during the 香港六合彩开奖结果现场直播 World Conservation Congress held in Hawai驶i in September 2016. Over her extended four-year term as Deputy Chair, she oversaw the daily operations of the Commission, participated in over ten 香港六合彩开奖结果现场直播 Council Meetings, and coordinated various WCEL signature initiatives including the preparations for the 2nd World Environmental Law Congress, the 香港六合彩开奖结果现场直播 World Conservation Congres, the Global Judicial Institute on the Environment, and the WCEL Webinar Series. Professor Antolini also served as 香港六合彩开奖结果现场直播 Election Officer from 2019-2020, supporting the preparations for global Council elections to be held at the 香港六合彩开奖结果现场直播 World Conservation Congress in Marseilles.聽

Professor Antolini鈥檚 commitment and contribution to 香港六合彩开奖结果现场直播 and WCEL has been invaluable and we hope you join us in congratulating her on her excellent work. Fortunately, Professor Antolini will continue to serve on the WCEL Steering Committee and contribute to WCEL initiatives in her new role.聽

Current Steering Committee Member and Chair of the WCEL Early Career Group, Nicholas Bryner, has agreed to step in as Deputy Chair for the remained of the term. Professor Bryner is an Assistant Professor of Law at Louisiana State University鈥檚 Paul M. Hebert Law Center, where he teaches courses in environmental, natural resources, and administrative law. Prior to his academic work, Professor Bryner was Executive Officer for WCEL. He is fluent in Portuguese, Spanish, and English. Professor Bryner brings a wealth of knowledge to the Deputy Chair position and we are excited to welcome him to this role.

WCEL also welcomes two new Steering Committee Members: Christina Voigt and Christina Pak. Professor Voigt is Professor in the Department of Public and International Law at the University of Oslo. As an expert in international environmental law, she is a premier scholar in the field of climate change, environmental multilateralism, and sustainability. Professor Voigt is a member of the 香港六合彩开奖结果现场直播 Task Force on Climate Change and Chair of the WCEL Climate Change Specialist Group. In 2009, she was awarded the first 香港六合彩开奖结果现场直播 Academy of Environmental Law Junior Scholarship Prize, and received the CISDL Legal Specialist Award for Climate Change in 2020.

Since 2009, Professor Voigt has also been working for the Norwegian government on issues of climate change and biodiversity conservation. She was lead negotiator on REDD+ (Reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation in developing countries) and worked as principal legal advisor and negotiator in the UN climate negotiations, inter alia, on the Paris Agreement (2015) and the Katowice Rulebook for the Paris Agreement (2018). She was co-facilitator for the UN negotiations on the rules for the Paris Agreement麓s compliance mechanism, and was in 2020 elected as inaugural co-chair of the Paris Agreement麓s Committee to Facilitate Implementation and Promote Compliance.

Christina Pak serves as Principal Counsel of the Asian Development Bank and is responsible for managing the Office of General Counsel鈥檚 Law and Policy Reform Program. She oversees a diverse portfolio in the areas of environment protection and climate change, gender equality, private sector development, public-private partnerships and digital economy.

Christina leads ADB鈥檚 judicial on environmental and climate change adjudication and which aims to improve environmental legal education in Asia and the Pacific. She also co-leads the Legal Readiness for Climate Finance and Climate Investments technical assistance which has been modernizing legal frameworks to attract greater international climate finance and climate investments into ADB鈥檚 developing member countries. Additionally, Christina specializes in international arbitration reform and has been assisting various countries in the South Pacific region accede to the New York Convention and put in place implementing arbitration law, including Fiji, Palau, Papua New Guinea and Tonga, and assisted Uzbekistan with its new Law on International Commercial Arbitration.
