Dr. Ines Arroyo-Quiroz (Mexico), Biologist (National Autonomous University of Mexico, UNAM, 1996), with a PhD in Biodiversity Management (University of Kent, UK 2004) and a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Research Institute of Ecosystems and Sustainability (UNAM 2004-2006), works as a full time researcher at the Regional Centre for Multidisciplinary Research (CRIM, UNAM) focusing on the use of animals, wildlife trade, green criminology and green cultural criminology, recently developing two international collaborations on the dynamics of wildlife trade between Mexico and the European Union. Currently, she is working on two interdisciplinary projects: 鈥淎 historic perspective of the fur and leather trade from wild species involving Mexico centuries XVIII-XXI鈥 and 鈥淩epresentation of wild animals in Mexican cinema, a view from cultural green criminology鈥. Dr. Daan P. van Uhm is Associate Professor at the Willem Pompe Institute for Criminal Law and Criminology at the Utrecht University, the Netherlands. He conducted research on various forms of environmental crime, such as transnational wildlife trafficking, illegal mining, deforestation, timber trade and ecocide. He obtained his PhD at Utrecht University in 2016 (The Illegal Wildlife Trade: Inside the World of Poachers, Smugglers and Traders, Springer). In 2018 he received the prestigious Veni grant of the Dutch Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) for his research project: 'The Diversification of Organized Crime into the Illegal Trade in Natural Resources'. Van Uhm primarily focuses on research in the context of green crimes and harms.

Green Criminology, an analytical and interdisciplinary framework from across the social and natural sciences concerned with environmental crimes and harms, including risks and transgressions that are harmful to humans, ecosystems, and non-human animals, regardless of legality.
Green criminologists extend the definition of green crime beyond conventional understandings of crime. Due to the social construction of crime, influenced by power dynamics and social inequalities, green criminology goes beyond existing legal definitions and criteria. Doing green criminology requires a sense of scale and interconnectedness of issues, events, places, and earth inhabitants from a non-anthropocentric perspective.

The Green Criminology Specialist Group includes different thematic groupings across geographic contexts, to identify impacts of environmental degradation because of human activity and to provide insightful analysis to these challenges.
The Green Criminology (GC) Specialist Group's mandate is framed within the mission and its programme priorities and has the ultimate aim of influencing policy and practice.
