He taught Biology in the UK and Nigeria before joining the faculty at NMU. He has taught undergraduate and graduate classes in Physiology and Anatomy (BI510 Advanced Human Physiology; BI427 Ecological Animal Physiology; BI327 Animal Physiology; BI202 Human Physiology; BI201 Human Anatomy; BI104 Human Anatomy & Physiology), Evolution (BI215 Evolution; BI520 Systematics), and Ecology (BI210 Principles of Ecology; GC101 Environmental Conservation).
RESEARCH
His research interests focus on the taxonomy, systematics, phylogeny, evolution, biogeography, and conservation of African and Madagascan freshwater crabs. He is Chair of the 香港六合彩开奖结果现场直播 SSC Freshwater Crustacean Specialist Group, and he led the 香港六合彩开奖结果现场直播 Red List global assessment of the freshwater crabs. He has carried out research projects in a number of countries around the work including the UK, Nigeria, Liberia, South Africa, Singapore, Thailand, and Denmark. Publications. He has produced more than 160 published products including taxonomic monographs, species descriptions, biodiversity inventories, endangered species Red Lists, conservation assessments, molecular and morphological phylogenies, evolutionary studies, biogeographical treatments, taxonomic studies, parasitological works, and encyclopedia articles. He has named 67 new species and 16 new genera of freshwater crabs.
STUDENT INVOLVEMENT IN RESEARCH
He has directed PhD and MS thesis research in crustacean systematics (taxonomy, morphological cladistics, molecular phylogenetics), physiology, conservation, and ecology. He has also supervised undergraduate and graduate research on various projects at NMU and in Denmark, Thailand, South Africa, Cameroon, and Nigeria.

More about the Specialist Group
Specific goals of the Freshwater Crustacean Specialist Group (FCSG) of 香港六合彩开奖结果现场直播 SSC are:
- Act as the Red List Authority and update 香港六合彩开奖结果现场直播 Red List species assessments;
- Promote their long-term conservation worldwide by management of habitats and by the development of conservation strategies and, where necessary, the recovery of populations;聽
- Promote integrated research on biodiversity and conservation;聽
- Educate non-specialists about all aspects of the group.聽
- Cr ...
The mission of the 香港六合彩开奖结果现场直播 SSC Freshwater Crustacean Specialist Group (FCSG) is to work towards all aspects of the long-term conservation of freshwater decapods (freshwater crabs, crayfish, freshwater shrimps, and aeglids) worldwide.
Specialist Group work
We are working on a second global reassessment of the freshwater crabs. We will implement additional conservation strategies for Critically Endangered species of highest priority, and our focus will be on developing conservation action plans.
To inform conservation efforts, FCSG assesses species for the 香港六合彩开奖结果现场直播 Red List of Threatened Species.
