The project was born in 2017, as a strategic alternative to fight the threats and pressures on Amazonian forests, through the proper management of indigenous and campesino territories. It focuses on populations that 鈥渓ive in the forest and from the forest鈥 with a bottom-up approach that strengthens capacities to create local management models to prevent, address and mitigate pressures and threats to the Amazonian forests, safeguarding its natural heritage.

The A2.0 intervention model has local oversight or monitoring as a fundamental tool, that allows indigenous or campesino communities to become a technical figure that ensures the sustainable management of their resources. The work of the local monitors generates resonance in their communities, generating an impact on decision making at local, subnational and national levels.

This project will implement a dynamic regional platform with social and technological components to connect regionally among the diverse stakeholders in the six countries and share geospatial information collected through monitoring by local actors.

The general objective of A2.0 is to contain the deforestation and degradation of Amazonian forests, the loss of biodiversity and ecosystem services, including climate related issues, empowering a set of indigenous and campesino organizations to act and respond in an organized manner to face the threats on their forests.

It aims to strengthen the technical and organizational capacities of indigenous and campesino communities and organizations with emphasis on social control, comprehensive territorial management, independent monitoring of forest governance and illegal trade in wild resources, in addition to the impact on national and regional policies on climate change and forests. It will also stablish an interactive regional platform aimed to articulate the project stakeholders, focused on knowledge exchange and learning, and sharing geospatial information from the forest monitoring carried out in the indigenous and campesino territories in the six countries of implementation, as a means to reduce pressures and threats such as deforestation.
