Focusing on the Mediterranean basin, Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹ûÏÖ³¡Ö±²¥ would like to engage new effort towards closing the plastic tap and recovering healthy oceans. Hence, the main objective of this project is to gather information on six fundamental questions:
1. How much plastic actually is measured in the Mediterranean Sea (Med)?
2. How much plastic is expected to enter the Med based on a plastic footprint modeling?
3. What are the economic consequences of plastic pollution for the Med. region?
4. What are the prevention and mitigation policies in place? Are they efficient?
5. Which are the main local prevention and remediation initiatives? How to evaluate projects and focus on what really matters?
6. Where do the key industrial sector contribute? How can industry innovate and find preventive solutions?
In accordance with BeMed objectives, and in collaboration with BeMed Partners, the project will seek at
- relating the information obtains through the model study with the on-the-ground research conducted by BeMed Partners (Tara Expeditions and Surf Rider)
- raising awareness of and build capacity on the issue of plastic pollution in the Mediterranean sea at local and national levels, in full synergy with BeMed partners relevant objectives and actions.
Objective:
The objective is to improve the knowledge of the origin of the plastic debris and their movement in the Mediterranean Sea. Participate in the elaboration of measures for the prevention, reduction…
