Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) Headline Indicator A.1

One of the goals of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework is to maintain, enhance, or restore, the integrity, connectivity, and resilience of all ecosystems by 2050. To evaluate the progress of each country toward this goal, the RLE was adopted as Headline Indicator, with the Red List Index of Ecosystems (RLIe) providing a summary of the data obtained from these assessments. The RLIe is a single value between 0 and 1, that summarises the overall risk status of all ecosystems within a country. Values closer to 0 indicate that most ecosystems are critically endangered and may be on the brink of collapse, whereas values closer to 1 indicate that, overall, the ecosystems present are of least concern.

The RLE Inventory provides a report on the RLIe per country for which there is available data, on the GBF Reporting tab. RLIe values are also summarised by Ecosystem Functional Group (The 3rd level of the ) where the crosswalk between ecosystem type, and Ecosystem Functional Group is available. Only ecosystems that have been comprehensively assessed are included in the GBF reporting tab.聽

Country/Territory Profile

The RLE Inventory also provides, for each country with available data, a complete list of all ecosystems that have been assessed with the RLE tool. Available by selecting the Country/Territory Profile, this tab details the ecosystems, their corresponding Ecosystem Functional Group if known, threat status, the RLE criteria which triggered the threat status assignment, method of assessment, and various links and citations of source material. All ecosystems that have been assessed are included in this report, irrespective of scale, and are arranged in order of scope, from sub-national assessments to national assessments, to supra-national assessments.聽
