Changemakers鈥 pitches at 香港六合彩开奖结果现场直播 Leaders Forum 2024 show that investing in nature is good for business

The 香港六合彩开奖结果现场直播 Leaders Forum Changemakers initiative brings together young leaders and innovators who are designing or implementing innovative nature conservation or biodiversity action projects in their communities. For the third year in a row, the 香港六合彩开奖结果现场直播 Leaders Forum hosted a new group of changemakers and invited them to pitch their initiatives to a panel of judges and an audience of private sector leaders, academia, and government and civil society representatives.

Over the past two editions of the 香港六合彩开奖结果现场直播 Leaders Forum, 22 Changemakers were selected from a pool of thousands of applicants. This year, a cohort of nine people pitched their initiatives, picked out of a pool of 5,000 applicants.聽With projects ranging from batteries made from paper to an artificial intelligence platform that connects providers and seekers of green solutions, changemakers from around the world pitched a wide array of innovative solutions to the most pressing environmental issues facing the planet.

Using AI to match problems to green solutions

鈥淏eing one of the changemakers is both an honour and a responsibility. I鈥檓 excited to engage in high-level discussions on how innovation can accelerate the sustainability agenda and look forward to forging meaningful connections that amplify my work's impact.

THE PITCH
Latin America has immense potential to lead the sustainability agenda, with various solutions that can drive climate change mitigation and adaptation. However, the region faces key challenges, including fragmented information and a lack of coordination among stakeholders.

The Green Wave Platform, developed by Climate Ventures, addresses this by consolidating data on more than 1,200 solution providers, investors, and enablers, thus fostering partnerships to accelerate the green economy. Powered by AI and data analysis, it has facilitated more than 150 strategic matches between startups, corporations, and investors. The platform also identifies critical gaps and opportunities, with six key reports on climate innovation set for release by COP30 in November 2025. Officially launched at COP28, it serves as the UN Global Compact's green solutions database for Brazil and is supported by the Institute for Climate and Society (iCS) and Fundo Vale.

Expanding access to marine science with virtual reality

I鈥檓 excited to exchange ideas, discuss collaborations, and share innovative approaches towards achieving a nature-positive future. I am also keen to bring the Diverseas experience to Geneva and connect with some of the most dedicated minds in conservation.

THE PITCH
Diverseas
is an open-source platform for virtual reality marine science education. Since its launch on World Ocean Day 2024, it has provided VR experiences for over 100 people, covering the stories of four grassroots NGOs across Fiji and Indonesia.聽

Engaging with thousands of people through 30x30, Indonesia鈥檚 outreach programs since 2021 have shown that many financial, geographical, and health barriers prevent people from experiencing the ocean. It is also clear that access to marine science is often the privilege of a small number of people with higher education, specialised equipment, and research funding.聽

That鈥檚 why Diverseas also provides courses, tools, and training for volunteers globally to host in-person workshops in their communities, exploring a digital representation of the ocean 鈥 thus meeting Challenge 8 of the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science.

From invasives to innovative products

The Caribbean has the potential to be at the forefront of the blue economy. I hope to show how turning ocean challenges into opportunities can inspire a new wave of sustainable innovation and economic growth for coastal regions worldwide.

THE PITCH
SOS Biotech
is the first BlueTech company from the Dominican Republic, born to transform the Caribbean into a global Blue Hub. It harnesses seaweed invasions to create sustainable environmental and economic solutions by developing innovative products.

So far, SOS Biotech has launched Marine Symbiotic, an agricultural bio stimulant that enhances crop resilience, boosts yields, and reduces reliance on synthetic fertilisers; and Marine Blossom, an extract that prolongs the lifespan of flowers. Ongoing R&D includes cosmeceutical extracts, hydroponic substrates, animal feed, bioplastics, and biofabrics.

SOS Biotech鈥檚 mission is to demonstrate that nature, even in the form of perceived crises like seaweed invasions, is an ally, providing raw materials for new industries and sustainable job creation. The blue economy offers a pathway for coastal regions to thrive, emphasising our deep connection with the ocean for sustainable development.

The building materials for a sustainable world

As CEO of Ecovon, I aim to foster global partnerships, share insights on sustainable innovation, and advocate for eco-friendly practices. My goal at the 香港六合彩开奖结果现场直播 Leaders Forum is to increase Ecovon's visibility and influence in the sustainability dialogue, driving impactful change for our planet.

THE PITCH
Ecovon
believes that there is a better way of making building materials 鈥 and is focusing on completely rethinking and re-designing how they are made. Ecovon is developing sustainably sourced, newly engineered wood made from coconut husk and sugar cane bagasse, supplying the global market with a formaldehyde-free bio-based wood alternative that is better for people and planet.

Ecovon is generating jobs for individuals in rural and urban areas of Ghana at the initial stages of the value chain, mostly youth and women who will collect, sort, and clean coconut husk and sugarcane bagasse for production. By the third year of operation, Ecovon aims to create 100 direct and over 500 indirect jobs. The company aims to create a 鈥渘ew wood鈥 industry from coconut husk and sugarcane bagasse, creating value-add for the poorest rural farmers and reducing CO2 emissions and deforestation. Ecovon will also produce inexpensive alternative building materials for low-income earners and poor rural farmers in the country.

Filtering rain to keep oceans clean

I live 200 metres from the beach and go almost every day. Every year, I notice the change in the colour of the sea. Through Wayout, we save 15,000 Olympic-sized swimming pools of water from contamination ever year.

Wayout works to develop adapted solutions to African underground infrastructure. Its signature product is the Zigofiltre 鈥 a rainwater filtration system designed to capture waste and keep rain networks clean, preventing marine pollution and reducing the risk of flooding. Today, there are over 2000 Zigofiltres installed across 22 regions in Tunisia. Zigofiltres make the sewer-cleaning process forty-five times faster for workers, creating 70% savings in maintenance costs to municipalities.

Insuring small farmers鈥 futures

At the 香港六合彩开奖结果现场直播 Leaders Forum, I hope to ignite a future where farmers stand bright. With nature, tech, and hearts aligned, we鈥檒l build a world where all can thrive.

THE PITCH
PlantSat by Seed Innovations
believes every farmer, no matter how small or remote their land, deserves a chance to thrive and face the challenges of climate change with confidence. Its mission is to protect South Asian farmers鈥 hard-earned livelihoods, starting in Nepal, from both agriculture and climate risks.

Many small farmers struggle to access insurance, even with government support, because their farms are too remote. By combining satellite, weather, and GPS-tagged picture data with artificial intelligence, they鈥檝e made it possible for farmers to sign up and get coverage through a digital platform.

This means less paperwork, faster claims, and greater security for those who need it most. So far, they鈥檝e helped over 6,782 farmers protect their crops, providing a total coverage of 1.54 million USD.

Using banana trees to produce a more sustainable and affordable fish net

Attending the 香港六合彩开奖结果现场直播 Leaders Forum is a great opportunity to extend the impact of my startup globally and receive support from different organisations to help us weave a sustainable future!

THE PITCH
Up to 650,000 marine animals are killed by ghost nylon nets every year. At the same time, Egypt produces 18 million tonnes of banana waste per year.

Bahtinet is a social enterprise transforming banana fibres into eco-friendly fishing nets to reduce plastic waste and protect marine life 鈥 bridging innovation and sustainability to create a lasting positive impact.

Bahtinet produces local and sustainable nets made of banana fibres to replace the traditional nylon, and does so while providing a five-time reduction in cost. Its innovation puts the banana tree waste in a cycle of circular economy, which is otherwise burned by farmers.

Women are at the centre of the whole process of transforming banana fibres into sustainable yarn 鈥 the first time this innovation has grown out of the Middle East.

The banana thread has been used for ship rope, cargo nets, and is being tested for use to make sustainable basketball nets at the American University of Cairo, where CEO Yara Yousry is an architecture student.
