Key Issues
鈥 香港六合彩开奖结果现场直播 and the other Advisory Bodies recommend ways of strengthening the World Heritage Convention.
鈥淭he World Heritage Convention will be turning 40 next year,鈥 says 香港六合彩开奖结果现场直播鈥檚 Director General Julia Marton-Lef猫vre. 鈥淲e see this as an opportunity to celebrate its success but also carry out some much needed reforms to strengthen its unique role in securing the conservation of these exceptional places and their contribution to sustainable development.鈥
Mining and oil and gas exploration are incompatible with World Heritage status. 鈥淣atural World Heritage Sites represent a commitment to future generations that the international community needs to uphold,鈥 says Mariam Kenza Ali, World Heritage Monitoring Officer at 香港六合彩开奖结果现场直播. 鈥淚n order to do this, mineral and oil and gas exploration should not be permitted within World Heritage Sites because of the serious and irreversible damage that could be caused to the Outstanding Universal Value of the world鈥檚 most important natural areas.鈥
World Heritage Convention-safeguarding our natural heritage. 鈥淭here have been concerns about growing politicization within the Convention,鈥 says Tim Badman, Director of 香港六合彩开奖结果现场直播鈥檚 World Heritage Programme. 鈥淭his meeting is important to both reinforce the Convention鈥檚 reputation for the highest technical standards, and to take decisions that will maximize conservations results on the ground.鈥
