As part of their commitment to the issue of conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity in marine areas beyond the limits of national jurisdiction, the Parties to the CBD have agreed to address options for cooperation for the establishment of marine protected areas beyond the limits of national jurisdiction.
This topic was on the agenda of the first meeting of the Convention鈥檚 Ad Hoc Open-Ended Working Group on Protected Areas in July 2005, and will also be discussed at the second meeting of this Working Group.
