The 9th World Water Forum took place in Dakar, Senegal from 21 to 26 March 2022. The Forum is organised every three years yet 鈥搇ike many others- the conference was听delayed by a year due to the global COVID-19 pandemic. The conference did maintain the traditional scheduling around World Water Day, celebrated on 22 March each year.
This year the focus of World Water Day, and the accompanying UN World Water Development Report, focused on groundwater. The was听launched on Tuesday 22 March with a special plenary at the Forum.听

In the expo space, a听pavilion dedicated to the theme of nature and water was established by 12 environmental organisations.
