Conference on coastal carbon sinks conservation, 21-22 November, Malaga (Spain)

In the Framework of the听Life Blue Natura听project, which is an ambitious and innovative initiative to quantify blue carbon and protect coastal habitats in Andalusia. The 香港六合彩开奖结果现场直播 - Centre for Mediterranean Cooperation (香港六合彩开奖结果现场直播-Med) in collaboration with the听Consejer铆a de Medio Ambiente y Ordenaci贸n del Territorio de la Junta de Andaluc铆a, the听Agencia de Medio Ambiente y Agua de Andaluc铆a听(AMAYA),CSIC-CEAB听and the听Association Hombre y Territorio听(HyT)听will hold a workshop on coastal carbon sinks conservation, in Malaga (Spain), on November 21st听and 22nd.

Coastal and marine ecosystems are increasingly recognized for their important role as carbon sinks, therefore the need to improve their management and conservation so that they can continue to听act听as sinks and deposits of听greenhouse gases.听This meeting aims at gathering scientists, managers and other interested groups to examine current knowledge about these ecosystems in the face of climate change. The conference will also present and discuss the results and future perspectives of Blue Carbon ecosystems as tools for Mitigation and adaptation to climate change and how to promote their conservation and restoration.

The topics that will be addressed are:

1. Climate change in the marine environment and international and national actions to combat it. Review of policy development and Blue Carbon needs.

2. The services provided by coastal ecosystems, their management and ability to sequester carbon.

3. Research on Blue Carbon.

4. Experiences and initiatives of offset projects with carbon markets and presentation of work on conservation and restoration of mangrove swamps, marshes and seagrass beds around the world.

The conference will be held in Spanish and English.

LIFE Blue Natura (2015-2019) is a European project whose main objective is to know and quantify blue carbon sinks of seagrass and coastal wetlands in Andalusia and to evaluate the environmental services they provide using tools and policies related to climate change.
