Mr Cyril KORMOS
Thematic Vice Chair, World Heritage and Primary Forests. Cyril is Founder and Executive Director of Wild Heritage, a project of the Earth Island Institute. He was a Visiting Scholar at the University of California at Berkeley in 2015-2016, a Lui-Walton Innovator鈥檚 Fellow at Conservation International from 2016-2018 and became a National Geographic Explorer in 2018. Cyril also serves as a member of the Board of Trustees of Wild Europe and on the Steering Committee for the Amazonia for Life: Let's Protect 80x2025 initiative. Cyril has edited several books, including A Handbook on International Wilderness Law and Policy (Fulcrum Publishing) and four books in the CEMEX Nature Series. He has also published extensively in scientific and policy journals. Cyril holds a B.A. in English from the University of California, Berkeley, an M.Sc. in Politics of the World Economy from the London School of Economics and a J.D. from the George Washington University Law School. Cyril was a Visiting Scholar at the University of California at Berkeley in the Department of Environmental Science, Policy and Management in 2015-2016.

Thematic Vice Chair, World Heritage
Alfred is the Director of International Policy at the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS). He has worked in conservation for more than 14 years, and currently focuses on global or multilateral policy frameworks addressing biodiversity, protected areas and OECMs, wildlife trade, migratory species, pandemics of zoonotic origin, climate change, food systems, and more. He has engaged with more than 30 World Heritage sites through the work of WCS, with wider experience through engagement on other sites and on cross-cutting issues with World Heritage decision-making fora. He co-chairs working groups convened under the WCPA on topics such as OECMs, and he has also co-authored papers in scientific and policy journals on protected and conserved areas, forest integrity, and more. Alfred holds a B.A. in environmental studies and literature from Connecticut College and a Masters in public policy and administration, focusing on international environmental law and governance, from Columbia University.

Natural World Heritage sites are internationally recognised as the world鈥檚 most significant protected areas and include iconic places such as the Serengeti, the Great Barrier Reef, and the Gal谩pagos Islands. Because of their high recognition, they offer crucial insights into the successes and challenges of protected area conservation worldwide.
Objectives

- Assist on a regular basis 香港六合彩开奖结果现场直播 in its core function as an official advisory body on nature under the World Heritage Convention, through a highly experienced group of experts within 香港六合彩开奖结果现场直播-WCPA. This includes support to 香港六合彩开奖结果现场直播鈥檚 work relating to the monitoring of sites, evaluations of candidate sites鈥 nominations, and thematic guidance documents.
- Help meet the increasing demand for technical assistance and information gathering for the聽, which assesses all natural World Heritage sites.
- Ensure that WCPA follows necessary standards and procedures for 香港六合彩开奖结果现场直播鈥檚 work on World Heritage, recognise WCPA members who are appropriately experienced and skilled, and actively develop and train a group of experts within WCPA, ensuring regional, language, gender and age balance.
- Take advantage of WCPA members鈥 capacity to help maintain the World Heritage Convention鈥檚 credibility and address threats to World Heritage sites.
Becoming a member
This is a 鈥淣etwork鈥 rather than a 鈥淪pecialist Group鈥 as, while all members share an interest in World Heritage, only some of them are confirmed experts in the field or engage directly in World Heritage-related work.
