First-ever biodiversity and ecosystem training for Ultratech Cements Ltd. in India

Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹ûÏÖ³¡Ö±²¥ has been working with Ultratech Cements Limited to enhance the company’s performance towards biodiversity conservation. A key component of the engagement is to build understanding of biodiversity and ecosystem service related challenges amongst the Ultratech staff. As such, Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹ûÏÖ³¡Ö±²¥ organised a Businesses and Ecosystem Training (BET) workshop on January 13, 2017, at Sewagram, Ultratech Cement Ltd. in Kutch Gujarat, India.

Workshop sessions were designed based on the BET Module I: 'Understanding Business and Ecosystem linkages.' Key technical sessions included the basics of business and ecosystesm services, business and ecosystem service linkages, biodiversity and ecosystem services management and participatory exercises towards identifying priority ecosystem services for Sewargam Cement Works.

30 company staff from the departments of mine planning, environment, administration and CSR participated in the workshop. Dr Randal Glaholt, Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹ûÏÖ³¡Ö±²¥ expert consultant, and Mr. Vipul Sharma, Programme Officer, Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹ûÏÖ³¡Ö±²¥ India were the resource persons for the workshop.

This was the first workshop in the ongoing capacity building programme for Ultratech. Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹ûÏÖ³¡Ö±²¥ will continue organising training workshops on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services for Ultratech and Aditya Birla Group staff in the future.  Â
