Abstract

The Endangered Roatán spiny-tailed iguana (Ctenosaura oedirhina) is found only on theÌýislands of Roatán, Barbareta, and some surrounding cays. Although dense populationsÌýcan be found in some privately protected locations, threats persist and managementÌýefforts are needed.ÌýThe Roatán spiny-tailed iguana was first described in 1987 and since then informal andÌýdetailed studies have been conducted to better understand its biology and status. InÌý2010, a long-term monitoring program began, elucidating fluctuations in populationÌýdynamics and threats. This document presents a comprehensive five-year plan for the conservation andÌýmanagement actions considered essential to ensuring the long-term survival of °ä³Ù±ð²Ô´Ç²õ²¹³Ü°ù²¹Ìý´Ç±ð»å¾±°ù³ó¾±²Ô²¹ in the wild. This plan combines knowledge and expertise from government, nongovernmentalÌýorganizations, and the community of Roatán and greater Honduras, with theÌýcollective expertise of the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹ûÏÖ³¡Ö±²¥ SSC Iguana Specialist Group.
