High-Level Judicial Event on the Future Role of Judges in Environmental Law will be held Online from 8 to 10 December

More than fifty judges and legal scholars will gather in person and online to present at the High-Level Judicial segment of the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹ûÏÖ³¡Ö±²¥-WCEL 2nd World Environmental Law Congress, The Role of Judges: Environmental Law 2030 and Beyond. The hybrid event will be held at the Supreme Court of the State of Rio de Janeiro from Wednesday, 8 December through Friday, 10 December, 2021. The outcomes of the event, presented in congress proceedings and posted recordings of sessions, will help strengthen judicial capacity in nature conservation around the world.

The event is organized by the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹ûÏÖ³¡Ö±²¥ World Commission on Environmental Law (WCEL), in cooperation with the (UNEP), the Supreme Court of the State of Rio de Janeiro, the Global Judicial Institute on the Environment (GJIE), the (IAJ), the (ADB) as well as several other international and national institutions.

This hybrid event will reaffirm, further develop, and advance the 2016 Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹ûÏÖ³¡Ö±²¥ World Declaration on the Environmental Rule of Law and the 2018 Brasilia Judicial Declaration on Water Justice, in light of the and (September 2021), the by the United Nations Human Rights Council (September 2021), the (October 2021), and the outcomes of (November 2021).

The High-Level Judicial Event will include discussions on the following topics:
